Description:
Identification Notes:

T. furfuracea is typical of the genus, which has received little critical study in North America. Some European mycologists split T. furfuracea into several different species based on ecology and minor differences in cheilocystidium shape and spore size. We use the name in a very broad sense here. T. confragosa differs in often having a membranous ring and darker spores, which lead some mycologists to place it in the genus Phaeomarasmius.
